Love Unconditional (Short Film)

This film explores the theme of a master (employer) - servant (domestic worker) relationship and the ‘Sunday’ Christian living of a Singaporean family. Yati is an Indonesian lady, who traveled to Singapore to work as a domestic helper. She was filled with hope and the promises of a good life in Singapore but to her disappointment and despair, she finds that her Christian employer, Ivy is really not much different from a slave master. From her first day of employment, Yati was repeatedly bullied by Ivy, but with a longing of salvation, Yati begins to find solace in Joan, Ivy’s daughter. Through Joan’s encouragement, Bible reading and prayer, Yati manage to stay strong and forgiving.

A good portrait will contain at least one element that reveals the subject’s personality, attitude, unique mannerisms or any of the other features or traits that form the individual nature of the person. It will tell us something about the subject. A portrait is defined as a likeness of a person, especially of the person’s face. But, the word in general use has deeper connotations. A photographic portrait is understood to be a good quality image that not only captures a person’s physical likeness on film, but also something of the person’s character, generally in a manner that is attractive and pleasing to the subject. The image also reveals a significant, identifiable part of the subject’s character.

Below are the Portraits I took with Alex, Sheila, Phil, Nadia and the Neighbors’ adorable kids. Most are shot at the Brooks Studio in California, the one with Alex and Phil. The rest were done on location at Santa Barbara.
